MAHARASHTRA, Mumbai: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has made another impressive mark in Maharashtra politics. Contesting for the first time in Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) elections, AIMIM bagged 4 seats in the 122 member civic body. This is the third major breakthrough of the party after the success in 2014 state assembly elections and Aurangabad municipal polls.

AIMIM candidates Tanzila Ayaz Maulvi and Shakila Dastagir Khan have been announced as winner from Ward no. 34 and Ward no. 35 respectively.

Shiv Sena and BJP, the two partners in Maharashtra and at the Centre, fought the election separately against each other. Uddhav Thackeray party Shiv Sena registered a comfortable victory grabbing 52 seats. The BJP has won 42 seats  whereas Raj Thackeray’s MNS managed to win 9 seats and Congress-NCP combine came first on 6 seats.

In the Aurangabad civic polls held in April, AIMIM was the prominent choice of majority of Dalit and Muslim voters in the region. AIMIM emerged as the prime opposition by winning 26 seats in the 106 member municipal body, whereas the Congress could only manage to secure 10 seats.
