Yogi Adityanath, the controversial BJP MP from Gorakhpur, was scheduled to inaugurate a new building in Allahabad University, was stopped from entering the campus by a section of students. Terming him as ‘communal’ and ‘controversial’, the students said the leader would polarise the climate in the Central varsity.

According to a news report, the newly elected president of the University, Richa Singh, who contested independently said, “Yogi Adiyanath is a controversial leader who speaks on communal lines against Muslims.”

“Here we have Muslim students too in the university. If any riot-like situation occurred after his speech on the campus, who will be responsible? The ABVP members invited Adityanath without consulting me and that is against the AUSU (Allahabad University Students Union) constitution”, she added.yogi2

Singh, who called for the protest against the controversial leader, also raised objection against the fact that invitations carried her name, indicating her support.

The move has invited sharp reactions from other union members, who belong to RSS’s students wing ABVP, who had got cards printed inviting Adityanath as chief guest for inaugurating the AUSU building. The AUSU, in every academic session, organises a formal inauguration of its building. The AUSU body currently has four members belonging to ABVP on the posts of vice-president, general secretary and cultural secretary. Richa had won president’s post as an independent.
